that's usually because they don't sell with the full US warranty do they (eg, the 4 or 5yr one... everything getsa 1yr international warranty I believe).

I hope the 499 drops fast too. But for some reason, I doubt it will unless canon announces a 50 f/1.4 mk II. It'll be a while before it trickles down cheaper. And if it's really good it might be hard to get and just hover at that price, heh.

Regarding the sigma/tak/zeiss comparisons... anyone else get the feeling the zeiss shots were f'd up a bit? Some of the samples didn't seem right.

I have heard of a couple of warranty problems from sigma4less. They are not an authorized Sigma USA dealer.

Just putting it out there, many people do care about warranty. It also matters in case you may need to send it in to get calibrated.

Where is the lens available? I'm in Suzhou China this week. Is it available in China? If I can I may check out a shop.

I've noticed that sometimes their price is not really less or its only a few dollars less once shipping is factored in.

That's why I said they have the default 1yr world wide warranty. Their prices went up a bit after they seemingly got that straightened out recently (at least, that's what I could tell).

Which means you need to send it to Japan to get it fixed. Kinda negates the savings...

Can't say I see anything wrong with the bokeh, especially in the samples involving real subject like people.

I have difficulty seeing yellow cast in a shot of yellow flowers....unless those were supposed to be white.

Definately has a mild colour cast IMO and if people shoot jpg then you will either prefer it or you won't. Personally, I adjust WB to my own preference and for a 'crucial' shot (not that I ever have any as an amateur!) I will use a WhiBal and adjust for that. For me WB is a key adjustment and i do it as much for my L's as I do for my other brands. But on the kimono shot I'm not gonna judge a lens according to the kind of crummy light you get in subway.

On the bokeh it isn't an issue as yet. If people are complaining about it then let's hear why and let's see your reference points. JoJo has already posted similar OOF samples from the 30mm and 35mm L. Does anyone really see a difference there? I'm wondering if folks are just parroting what they read elsewhere - forum talk - rather than saying anything useful. IMO we haven't yet seen a shot featuring bokeh used creatively. When we do we can perhaps have a basis for a view.

As Dave just said, but taking it further. What they've done with this shot, is try to adjust the white balance so that whites are white, but in fact, are they? Subway / metro / tube lighting is always pretty cruddy, so there's probably a colour cast, because they're trying to achieve white whites, when in reality, the whites would look off anyway.

Colour cast? No, I don't see it. Screwed up white balance on an indoor scene, that I see. The lens may or may not have a colour cast but you can't call it from that photo.
