I'm not too sure of these other brands but, the Epson gets my vote.

Me too. Tested and proven by many a user.

I chose the Epson over the others and it just works, all day every day without a problem. Battery life is excellent and the screen is out of this world

wow!

the more i know about this Cowon Q5, the more im being impressed!
its literally a UMPC! an Ultra-portable Mobile PC!

so far, what i learned is:

it has wifi
bluetooth
windows ce operating system
800x480 pixel resolution @ 16million colors
5 inch display
touch screen!
GPS!
can play diff video, audio and photo codecs including RAW from canon

supported RAW formats (external link)

usb 2.0 host (can connect usb thumb drives or usb hdd enclosures with power supply, keyboard, mouse, etc)
ms office files viewer
battery life 13 hrs for audio/7 hrs for video 9i dont know about photo but i think its more than the 13 hrs for audio!)
can play flash from diffrent websites such as youtube

i will visit the store tomorrow to confirm that it is UTG (usb on the go) wherein you can actually transfer the files from the camera (40D) directly to the unit by just a usb cable.

if that is possible, i am gonna buy this thing definitely.

it is more than what the epson can do and it is definitely a subsitute for the laptop!

oh defiinitely! if they're open tomorrow, i will go there and bring the 40D with me.

if it works (UTG) then i will buy one and post some pics and a mini review.

i just really hope it does UTG. but as per the Cowon forums that i've been
checking so far, it does support UTG with Nikon cameras.

yup, i know. but its good to know there is an alternative and that sooner or later,
it might be available here in North America. if not, then there is always ebay

HDD size is really not a concern, it can always be cloned to a higher hdd drive, right?

what im doin right now is actually finding out what are the "better" alternatives to the
industry standard that seems to be Epson and/or Canon PSDs.

technology is changing so fast and there is always something better coming up everyday.

i dont subscribe to the belief that if the majority uses epson, i should be using epson as well.

with regards to this particular issue about PSD, i believe there is something out there that is alot
better than epson with more feature and usability and this is what im trying to do.

also, i really dont like the real estate factor (bulkiness) of the epson one. i tried it
today from a store and i was thinking;

"this thing is so bulky just for viewing pictures and playing songs and videos."

Assuming you can figure out how to get into the thing -- which isn't always apparent without explicit instructions to follow

OK, i have gone to the store and tried the Cowon Q5W.

initial impression

- the display is huge at 7 inches.
- screen quality is excellent.
- touch screen is poor (sometimes not responsive.)
- reads Canon RAW files.
- cannot connect the 40D directly. it asks for driver.

conclusion:

i did not buy it.

Read a review in Mens Health magazine today that the Cowan's processor was rated kinda weak. Also said it needed a Stylus to work properly.
