So....here are a few attempts at coaching/soccer shooting at our first game this season. C & C welcomed and appreciated. Also, how do you post more than 2 pics in the same post?

They are about what I would expect from youth soccer.... which is both good and sort of bad - hence the lack of comments. The venues usually have all kinds of problems with chain link fences, parking lots, and assorted ugly buildings. Then the players just aren't doing spectacularly athletic stuff you see in the higher level... so you don't get comments because of that. It's just tougher to get the gee-wiz shot at this level of play. That doesn't mean the shots are bad, they just don't grab the average joes attention enough to make a stranger do "dang!" So don't take the silence too serious.

Keep at it... looks like your doing just fine.

I take pictures at all the games my sons play every season. I take about 1000 by the end. It's hard to say I get more than 10 good ones every time. The parents get a disk from me with all the images. That's my gift to them. The first one is good. The second doesn't look like there was much action. But I'm sure there was. Keep snapping away. As I said, I never get more than 10 good ones at a time. Kids are not as exciting as the pros, but the parents love them.

My children and grandchildren are the reason, but it's the passion that drives me to get the perfect image of everything.

I will comment however I am no pro and judging photos is VERY subjective. With that said:
- try to include EXIF info so that the settings used can be seen. It helps in making suggestions
- personally, when I take shots of soccer I (generally) like to make sure I have action, ball and the players face (especially the eyes).
- crop tight HOWEVER that is subjective. It all depends on what you are trying to show.

So, with that said IMO:
Shot #1: Good shot and crop however the moment in time you captured looks a little awkward. Keepers are hard to get good shots of or at least that is my experience!

Shot #2: To me it looks like the player with the ball is a little OOF. It looks like the female player is in focus so that hurts. Also, this is one I would crop tighter....if possible. Looking at it and where the players are at, getting a good crop may be tricky.

Concerning posting multiple photos, you need to use a photo hosting site like photobucket.com or smugmug.com, etc. You upload your photos there and then when you are on this (or other) boards, you past in a link to the photo you want to display. They kind of talk about it in the sticky titled, "Image Posting Rules (Read before you post)" at the top of the photo sharing boards. They also talk about it on the hosting sites as well.

Anyways hopefully this helps!

I would also advise shooting from a lower perspective instead of standing.

Try to shoot with the sun at your back. Both shots here are sidelit to the point that it doesn't appear that was a consideration.

Sometimes it takes a full day or even two to get comments for whatever reason. Sometimes the soccer nuts here just haven't had a chance to see them yet.

Keep shooting and posting.

Regards,
Jeff

If you did a 'Save for Web' in Elements it removes the EXIF data - I know that as I did the same when first posting on here :)

Use the Save As option and it'll retain the EXIF data. Too set yourself up a Free image hosting account with www.flickr.com (external link) _ that way you won't have to compress them so much. You'll be able to post the photo directly to a thread.

Looks like your enjoying the 30D - ;)
