I recieved my G9 last week and I have tried a couple of times to get into the system to add my name to the EXIF data. As I understand it, I have to open the EOS Utility program, click "camera setting/remote shooting" and move forwad from there. The problem I am having is that when I get into the EOS Utility program the "camera setting/remote shooting" button is not avaialble for me to click on.

Can anyone help me out? I somehow managed to do this with my Rebel XT and my A620 but for the moment the G9 has me stumped.

Thanks,

Ken

I was able to do it to mine but I think I had to use the new version of Zoombrowser that you must install to work with the RAW files it produces.

The EOS Utility will not work with the G9. You have to use the CameraWindow software that came with the G9 for this.

Thanks swwarrio; I'll try that this evening and post an update with my results.

I have also tried using the CameraWindow software to set my name as the owner of the camera - but it appears nowhere in the exif data I can see in Apple Aperture ??

..Doh! Just after posting I found it. Had to tell Aperture I wanted to see the Owners Name exif data :-)

Though strangely its only appearing on some of the images from the G9 , most of them have it , but some just have little or no exif data embedded in them.

If you processed RAW images that will remove date lines from the EXIF info.

When I got my G9 I was already running Zoombrowser with updates to the current version from the original installation from my G2. I did not add anything to get ZB to add my name to the EXIF data.
Therefore, the program took the name from something already in the system.
When I installed my OS, XP Pro, I put my name in during setup. Subsequent programs I have installed, such as MS Office and others have taken the name and included it with their own installation without any input from me. Zoombrowser did the same thing. I didn't add it myself.

What I am suggesting here is the ZB may be simply pulling the registered name of your OS and registering it with your installation of ZB. Now if your own name is on the OS install, then my theory is out the window,

I was able to add my name using CameraWindow using the setup button on the app window. Did this on a Mac running 10.5.2 with the latest version of the Canon software suite.

Success; thanks for all your tips and advice.

By the way I submitted a question to Canon regading this matter and I have not had a response except for a survey to ask if I was satisfied with the customer service.

That strikes me as an interesting approach.

Don't want to take the thread off track, but I have had a survey on service submitted to me for several different events BEFORE I received the reply or got the repaired item back. I think they need a little logistical organizing. Bet their return rate is low with that happening.
