Great illustration photos, Jose, thanks! Seeing the "completed" height of a tripod/head combo helps a lot when shopping.

I have the 055XPROB also and it suits me perfectly, I'm 6'3". With the crappy 3025 3D head I have right now, I only have to raise the center colum a few inches to have it at eye level.

I'm in the market for a tripod and head.

I'm borrowing a friends 3001BPro / 3030 head right now, I've never used a tripod before this. I'm just a hair under 6'1". I was under the impression that the 190XPRO would be right for me, but now I'm not so sure.

No, 3001 or 190 would be a bit on the short side for you. I suggest 3021 or 055

I keep meaning to get one of these but keep spending money on lenses :)

At the moment I have a Velbon something or other which is wobbly at best! At 6'4" the 055 looks like it will do just fine.

What would be a good head to compliment the 055XPRO legs, considering my equipment?

The only experience I have, very limited at that, is a Manfrotto 3030 3-way head that I'm currently borrowing.

Sorry, have nothing to comment on, regarding ability of the 3001/190 to carry the load of a certain long lens. I only related the suitability for photographers of different height.

Sorry if this is a dumb question... but if you're 5'5 or 5'6 does that mean you would not extend the legs all the way? Or even if it's fully extended the camera's viewfinder will be at the right height level?

So would the 055 or the 190 be right for someone around 5'6"?

Yes.

Actually, either would probably be just fine as far as height is concerned for a 5'6" photographer. However, the 055 is more solid and would be better for heavier equipment and/or longer focal lengths because it is more rigid.

I am 5'8" but I also have a 055XPROB. Extended without the center column is perfect eye height at the viewfinder. Where as the 190 would require the center column to be extended to reach my eye height.

Need vs. practicality. I am a pretty strong lad so weight is not a problem for me. Take a look at them both at a store and see how you feel.

Took me ages to decide between the two actually.

Thanks for the input, I've been going back and forth for a while now. I'm almost ready to purchase the legs and a ballhead, just waiting for the IRS to send me some money. . .

I love my 055XBPRO/488RC2 combo, being 6' 6" it works really well at all heights.

I'm only 5'4" and it works great for me :)
