And don't be kidding yourselves that Canon don't use noise reduction at high iso's

now i have seen it all....

and btw, the fact that Nikon buys their sensors doesn't mean a god damn thing. companies do it all the time and it is part of business. hell, your precious canon also buys stuff from Sony...

canon isnt' that precious to me -- wrong guy.

nikon was bent over a barrel by sony... unable to make their own sensors for years. ROTFLMAO. the underdog (nikon/apple) gets alot of free passes.

not saying canon hasn't screwed up alot - it has - but that doesn't change the dynamic.

again, just because something had a certain dynamic in the past doesn't mean that it can't or won't change. to me it seems like Nikon is really pushing hard right now with some killer bodies and killer optics while Canon has been resting with legs up at some beach...

and again, the fact that Nikon bought its sensors and didn't make it themselves doesn't mean much to me. Canon users has been looking at a Sony part for quite some time now and i don't see anybody complaining about it...

Sony only manufacture the chip, the design is by Nikon.
Besides, I can hardly tell the difference between most modern cameras these days.

Man every time someone brings up the D3 people start acting all crazy. Brand loyalty is what is really crazy, I could give a rats arse what brand I shoot with, just want it to perform. I thought long and hard about the D3, actually, still thinking long and hard about Nikon overall, but less now....Since getting the 1DsmkII I seemed to have found a body I really really love and it matches up with my glass perfectly.
Get off the Nikon/Canon, "My dads bigger than your Dad" kick, if you're not using a D3 or D300 then you really have no clue what Nikon has morphed into...Add the glass and now we have two (IMHO) very good choices with a plethora of options for each system. Thats a good thing

I look at it this way:

If you try to say Nikon is worse or Canon is better in a Nikon forum, you would be kicked out in no time.

But in a Canon forum, you can say good things about Nikon without being kicked out.

That is, Canon users are more objective than Nikon users.

i disagree, myself and a few other members have been called names and attacked many times just because we dared to say that Nikon is doing something better than Canon. since the release of the D3 and D300, i have reached the conclusion that Canon users are just as crazy as the Nikon users :) and btw, in all the recent 1DmkIII threads that i have seen, it is always Canon users who try to bash the D3 even though it has nothing to do with the discussion on hand. for proof, just do a search for Drisley posts and you will see what i mean..

As blonde says, that not the case at all. And you know what, when I shot Canon and posted over at Nikon Cafe I got far less grief than I do here.

As for the likes of mzivtins, well his rabid posts that pop up everytime Nikon is mentioned are nothing short of deeply, deeply sad.

It doesn't matter which camp your in people can always find pros and cons about other makes of cameras. I remember being told this when I was just starting out, "it don't matter what camera is in your hands. it's the mug behind it that will make or break the photo".

yeah, I've pretty much given up defending the D3 and left it to snir...

It's an awesome camera. Who cares who makes the sensor, I'd love to have it in my camera. They're pushing the limits much further than canon has recently and it's a great thing even if you never touch a nikon as it will lead to better cameras all around.

If their lenses weren't so much more expensive I might have switched. They also don't offer a few key lenses I own and love now. But regardless, props to them. The camera is just a tool guys, who gives a **** what name it on the front.

This is why I hate brand specific forums... They're useful for info on specific items, but a lot of members are too biased for their own good. It's just a tool, go take pictures with it and post them...

What is the purpose of a brand-specific forum? To get info on items from that brand, perhaps? That's why I come here. I don't come here expecting to see the bandwidth/HDD space chewed up with debates about other brands. This is not where I would come to learn about other brands. This is not where I would expect to find people knowledgeable about other brands. I come here expecting to find people with experience, knowledge, and (mostly) opinion about Canon products. There may be people here who have experience and knowledge (the opinion is a given) about other brands, but they are noise, not signal, in this environment. If I ever decide to change equipment brands, I will no longer come here, because then POTN will then be noise, not signal.

part of an informed opinion though is comparison shopping...and if you are familiar with other brands then you aren't ignorant of you own cameras value IRL. A piece of gear stands or falls on it's abilities in comparison to what other comparable pieces of gear offer. So numbers themselves are nothing unless there are comparisons.

I'm glad Nikon has come out with some excellent gear and is forcing these sorts of issues, I own the M3...it's an adequate camera but I'm not thrilled with it and I SHOULD BE for the price.

I too am tired of nikon bashing. Thatkatmat has my vote for PR guy around here ;)

Yes, I come here to see real life example from photographers using equipment I'm thinking about purchasing, IE the lens sample archives. But I also like to think of the group as photographers, not gear collectors or brand fan bois. I know there are a lot of all 3 here, I just try to only associate with the first.
