That's not such a huge surprise though Mark - I'd always expect a 12MP sensor to murder a 21MP sensor for noise performance. I'm not expecting a high noise champ from the higher resolution Nikon that will be along some time later this year or early next.

Mr Belmondo:

Your avatar thingy is truly distracting.
Is that you in the picture?

Please don't clutter this thread with rumors. (rumours, in your case.)

i completely overlooked the mpixel count, i guess you would at leats expect 2x the noise then on a almost 2x amount of pixels... at least we know one thing.... noise is fair... it hates EVERYONE with equality!

with boosting ISO, is this done 'after' the data is captured or done in the capture... say as the info passes through the processor/digic?

i would just say thats logical?

i know they arent the same sensors but by rule i would say that the more pixels you have the higher the total noisey pixels are in the picture... but then the ratio might still be the same?

Fair enough. If it isn't rumor, then it's speculation. That makes it off topic.

I think Belmondo's comment was in reference to the speculation of a new body, not the noise capabilities of a lower pixel density camera, which is fairly well known.

Precisely, Riley. Thanks.

I was just trying to make the point that a 12MP camera having superior noise performance than a 21MP isn't specific to Canon.

That's the part I was referring to.

The first part of your post was somewhat self-evident.

Fair enough - it wasn't intended as speculation, more as a pre-emptive strike against being accused of anti-Canon bias.

I'm sick of all the D3 reviews missing important points when comparing to either the 1Ds or the 1D.

Then just don't read them. Personally I don't care about any of those reviews... including those telling how much better Canon is then Nikon. Who cares anyway.
I'm shooting Canon, and if they would give me Nikon, I would be shooting Nikon... One or the other are just a fu*** cameras, nothing more. And on the end, it's photo which counts, not best specifications.

Unfortunately I'm signed up for broadcasts about any news on the 1Ds and 1D so I don't miss anything important they may have developed.
