Because Bodie is such high elevation, it's closed to all vehicles except snow mobiles most of the winter. I'm just wondering if anybody knows about what month it usually reopens? Thanks

No clue, but I can tell you last week it was certainly *not* open. Nor are ANY passes from Death Valley to Tahoe on the 395. Sonora, Monitor, Tioga, etc etc.

The Sierras got absolutely hammered this winter - barring a lasting heat wave - they will all be rather late openers this year.

I have no idea. Did you check out he Bodie website? There's a link on there for road conditions:

The last time I was there was in 2003, but I went in August so accessibility wasn't an issue.

They usually wait for the snow to melt off the road. So it varies but probably late april at the earliest to some time in may. Local caltrans folks might know.

It is a real bummer that the road is still closed. I'll be down in that area next week and it looks like I'm going to miss out again. I was in Yosemite last year and made it to Bodie 10 minutes before they closed and had to drive back. Looks like I'm SOL again :(

I don't know anything about but still maybe just a suggestion. I somehow doubt there wouldn't be option to come to Bodie with some snowmobile. And from that what I saw in summer, I'm sure winter would be really great time to be there.
But as I said, I have no idea about this, so my suggestion might be completely off.

Slightly OT, but you might find it amusing.

A few years ago I visited Yosemite for the first time. We wanted to drive out over the Tioga Pass, but at the ranger station they said it was still closed. This was the first week of June, so I expressed a certain degree of incredulity. "Perfectly normal", said the ranger. "Last year we didn't get it open until July 17th... but then there had been 70 feet of snow up there."

(Where I live, our deepest snowfall in 14 "winters" has been 11cm = 4.5 inches!)

Anybody have an update? Been near Bodie, Lee Vining or Bridgeport lately?

According to this: http://www.monolake.org/visiting/roadinfo.htm (external link) , the road to Bodie is still closed, but I can't really find info about what time of the spring/summer they usually open the road.
