i have an epson 875DC. while i do like it a lot, it's around 3-4 yrs old now. plus it eats up ink like crazy. and since i converted to a mac, it no longer recognizes my memory card slot.

so i think it is time to upgrade. i am looking at canon printers (mainly due to the fact that i can just change one color cartridge at a time) but i am not sure. help would be greatly appreciated.

i said UK in the title bcs there may be models non-UK people recommend that i can't buy here.

in terms of budget, nothing too drastic. it will mainly be for presentations and the odd picture, as the main pictures i want i do thru online printing services (eg jessops).

thanks for your help in advance.

I have a Canon i965 with which I am happy with for the moment.
It has 6 inks, is low on ink consumption and you can replace every
ink separately.

I get very good quality prints which I print on Ilford Gallery paper.

Depending on the day the B&W prints can come out quite well, too.
I use Mac and occasionally print BW through iPhoto.

tommy - thanks for recommendation but i am tryna get away from epson. while they have nice prints, i hate the fact that one cartridge requires a small mortgage, and the fact that (and i remember this vividly) i installed a new cart once, NEVER USED IT to print anything, and about a month later (just thru its stupid 'must clean' procedure) i had to replace it. and it doesn't let me just use the black ink instead - it MUST have all carts in place. how stupid. sorry.

DD - how much does each cart cost? i am a fellow mac user also (got sick of windows crashing if you asked it to work a little) but i am having trouble finding online printers that use mac-ready programs to upload to (eg jessops or transpanet). any suggestions?

The inks for the i965 they cost around £8, PC World had them for £6,99.
Prices vary as usual.

Before the Mac I had a PC laptop and a Canon 3in1 printer with
way lower specs than now, it used 2 inks and the prints were
quite impressive.

check this link for Canon's 'try before you buy' -

Have not tried online printing yet as I am in Ireland and things are
different anyway.
