I don't want to rain on your parade, but it appears that both the duck picture and the rabbit picture are OOF. The subjects in both pictures appear to be a bit soft, and the grass in front of the animals is in sharp focus - I don't know if this indicates a front focusing problem or operator error?

That's probably just him trying to handhold the camera and the 70-200 F/2.8 with one hand ;)

Thanks guys. It's probably just me. 1.3 does have a bit less dof compared to 1.6.

I tried some in flight bird shots, but seriously, I couldn't get any of those birds to fly. I chased them, only to have them think I'm running towards them to feed them.

One hand is easy on the 1d. I can't keep it steady for the 30D + 70-200. The middle finger notch and the thinness of the grip is the difference.

What is the deal with the xxx serial number? Its ridiculous. I right clicked on your jpeg, viewed the EXIF data, and presto, I have the serial number of your 30D that you took the first picture with. Now that I have it, what could I seriously do with it!!

Serial # of the MKIII is also available via your EXIF data.

He's just saying that his new MkIII is within the updated range which should have the AF issues rectified.
Makes it easier to read the post IMO.

Fresh from Canon with serial 56xxxx

I have seen this hundreds of times in all the photo forums, talking about all types of cameras. Serial #'s are xxx out. There is no reason for this.

With the mkIII's it certainly is applicable, not only to differentiate it from the effected serial numbers but some also believe that the latest bodies are having better performance than the non effected but middle of the road serial numbers. i don't know if there's any real evidence of this being true but for those who are paranoid about it, it is a question.
I had a 55xxxx that seemed to be a great, although I was paranoid every time I used Servo...but that's my fault for reading these boards too much...LOL:oops:

Well, I understand what you mean anyway. I do wonder what security issue is involved - can't think of any reason not to post a complete serial number. As you say, it's in the EXIF anyway...

Congrats on the MK III! I wouldn't worry about it too much regarding the AF. My MK III is pre-blue dot and it's working flawlessly after the fix. Enjoy the new toy! :)
