yet another, help me pick a compact!

I used to have a Sony superzoom which was a little big but still very managable to carry around most places. I love my DSLR but it's too much stuff to carry at times.

I have a Canon S200 ELPH 2.0mp camera, but it's showing it's age. Tiny LCD, crappy battery life (I don't want to buy any more batteries for it). But I've been very happy with it's image quality.

I'm looking for something in ELPH size (canon of course) that is cheap (used..probably)

Something under $200 that gets decent battery life, as that is my biggest pet peave of digital cameras! What other features are special with the cheaper SDxxx lineup? I really won't be using it much just something to carry around with me and the wife to use. I don't care about the number of pixels either (5mp would be fine).

That's a nice camera, but maybe a bit fancier then I really need at the moment. Here at Futureshop it's priced at $250.

Ebay has some SD400s for under $100 they any good?

I really have no experience with Canon's SD series. My sister has an older A520 and it's nice (not awesome) but that's as far as my Canon P&S experience goes.

I have an SD800. It's pretty nice. I also have an SD300, probably similar to your 200. The 800 is a big step up from the 300, in that it has much sharper pictures (more megapixels, without being 10 or 12), has IS for the lens, and has 28mm wide angle, for those up close and personal shots, or panoramic images. It also has a much larger LCD. The battery life might be the same, maybe a tweak better. Remember, though -- the SDs are small, so they have small batteries! I think they are a little more than $200 at present, but are a good camera.

How many pictures are typical of SDXXX series cameras? My S200 is only getting like 60 pics, 100max with no flash. I buy the sterlingtek batteries which are good but it's an old camera (2001) so not as efficient as something newer.

I've had an SD30 for over a year now and it's been my best friend since I got it. It takes wonderful photos for a small camera, although it does lack some of the manual functions. It's a great camera.
