Is it possible to place a lens filter on the G6 lens? And if so what size/recommendations?

To the best of my knowledge, neither the tele-converter nor the wide converter lenses are threaded to accomodate a filter. The size would be 58mm.

And if so what size/recommendations? As has been stated, you need an adapter to be able to put a filter on your G6. Note that the adapter is different from the one that fits the G3 or G5.
