G6 lens filter

Is it possible to place a lens filter on the G6 lens? And if so what size/recommendations?

It is possible to attach a filter to the conversion lens adapter, thus filtering the standard camera lens. To the best of my knowledge, neither the tele-converter nor the wide converter lenses are threaded to accomodate a filter. The size would be 58mm.

As has been stated, you need an adapter to be able to put a filter on your G6. Note that the adapter is different from the one that fits the G3 or G5. Lensmate is a highly regarded company that is getting ready to offer 2 versions of the adapter, in 52mm and 58mm sizes. Read about it here:

Speaking of good deals, I got a 1GB Lexar 40x CF today for $79.99 and a $20 rebate at Fry's in San Diego.

Two concerns with stacking a conversion lens on top of a filter:
First, If the filter is a polarizer, it's possible for the outer rotating ring to separate from the ring that's threaded to the camera/adapter tube when it's stressed by the weight of a big chunk of glass.
Second, with any filter (or especially with multiple filters) it's possible you'll see vignetting. Basically, the further from the camera the conversion lens is, the smaller the "tunnel" gets. Hold a ring up to your eye, and then move it away to see this effect. Anything outside the ring is going to be black in your image--you'll see it first in the corners, of course, because they're cropped by a diminishing circle sooner than the edges are.
Actually, the latter is a potential issue even if you get a non-Canon conversion lens that is threaded for filters--you're still moving that circle further from the camera. One thing you could do, however, is get a step up ring, and larger filters--basically extending the cone shape of the conversion lens, so that you're staying out of the light path. But larger filters are more expensive...
I don't know how close the G-6 is to vignetting with just the adapter and a conversion lens--there may be enough play there for you to get away with it?

MrChad, the Canon adapter (as well as the Lensmate) is designed with that use in mind, so I'm sure the lens does not extend past the end of the adapter. This is the case with my G2 and Canon's adapter--I use filters on it all the time.
