Blackpool Easter Hockey Festival is a 4 day tournament for hockey teams from all over Britain. The Friday weather was changeable to say the least, bright sunshine to sleet and hail with everything in-between. The only constant, it being bitterly cold.

I find it VERY hard to shoot ball sports, the action just jumps about to quickly for me. Not sure if a longer lens would help, I only have a 70-200 and think they maybe so close that the speed is magnified and with a longer lens it would be a little easier to shoot.

The second and third look like dead ball pictures, rather than action pictures.

agreed, try to get more motion in your action shots if the ball is moving.

I'm sure these were taken during action and not at set plays, but I take your point. Maybe my shutter speed was just too high (1/6400) to give any sense of motion, or it's my bad timing on the shutter button.

I do have some with more action, but more people.

It's your high SS which stops too much motion. I prefer to shoot baseball at or around 1/2000 which stops most player motion but shows the motion of swinging bats and balls in flight .

Jerry ~ Baseball is a game where only defensive players handle the ball and offensive players who hit successfully in only one third of their at bats are among the best in the sport.
