Hey all,

I'm the last guy to 'pixel peep', but today I noticed something strange with the pics from the 24-105 I received yesterday from B&H... all of the pictures are tack sharp on the left and centre, but soft on the right 1/3 of the frame...

Take a look:

Across the street, tripod mounted:

In my dining room, tripod mounted:

Outside, handheld, IS on; this was two photos, one with my wife on the left side of the frame (using left focus point), and one with her on the right (using right focus point)... everything was exactly the same except her position in the frame (left vs. right side of the lens):

Are you seeing what I'm seeing?

Should I be shipping it back to B&H? I don't have time to wait for Canon Canada to fix it, based on what I've heard.

PS - This is the first problem I've had with a lens, ever... including Sigma, Tamron, Tokina, Minolta, and Canon.

Yup I'd just swap with B+H.

As an aside, is that level of CA normal for the 24-105? I may have to revise my wish list if so :(

That CA is nothing compared to the Tokina 12-24 I just got! lol But I shoot only in RAW, so it's easy to remove. And keep in mind there was a lot of direct light on that particular piece of paper... the Canon had the best controlled CA of the Tokina 12-24, Tamron 17-50, and Canon 50mm 1.4.

Thanks for that perspective.

No problem... just watch out for copies that are soft on one side ;)
