I finally shelled out for a decent tripod and ballhead and they arrived today.

I'm still weary of it though. Not sure if it can support my camera and lens. You be the judge:

i came to the camera store yesterday, and the tripod was amazingly heavy  i didn't know it could be that much of weight. even though it's real sturdy, i guess im not gonna get one :( my cheapo velbon DF50 is half that weight and i like it, so ... saving for the carbon fiber tripod :(

ps: for that amount of money, for in door use, macro around the house... it's definitely great.

It's a well build tripod, no doubt about it. I personally would prefer something lighter, but of course that just means more money if I wanted something of equal or greater stability in my tripod.

congrats on the good purchase.

I just bought one myself, the weight doesn't bother me at all. I really just wanted a good tripod.

I am unimpressed with the Bogen 3044 tripod carry sling.

I think I'm going to come up with a homemade design that allows me to sort of carry it over the shoulder on the single pivot point at the neck, as opposed to using the Bogen two-point strap design that hooks to the neck and the other end wraps around the legs.

I didn't read the instructions, yet I found the tripod very intuitive to use as far as coverting the center column to the horizontal position and dropping it down flush to the ground. I'm probably going to the zoo sometime in the next few weeks and I'm going to bring this with me instead of my monopod. I want to see if the weight is really that much of a problem.

Congratulations on your purchase.

I have this combination too - and I'm not bothered by the weight while working with it or moving around in a given area of interest.

For carrying it with me all day or transporting it while travelling, Bogen/Manfrotto offer a padded tripod bag (external link) that allows you to carry the whole setup with the head attached, slung across your back. I use the MBAG80P model. Totally comfortable. Recommended.

I also just recently got this setup. Well everything but the strap. I was thinking of buying one of their bags for it. I haven't had much chance to use it much but I think I'm going to be pretty happy with it. I really like how the center column can be turned horizontally.

What made you buy the 055X PROB instead of the 190X PROB. I am currently evaluating which one of these 2 tripods to buy but I don't know the main differences between the two of them, a part from the height and weight?

Height and weight are the primary differences - of course the 055X is more robust in its build, and some argue that it is more stable. But do not discount the 190X PROB as a lightweight. It is extremely well built and sturdy, and I personally would prefer the weight/height of the 190X PROB.

Like you mentioned the 055PROB has more height, one of the reasons I chose it. It also supports more weight than the 190.

that is a "heavy" camera - sure you don't need a gimble holder -
great tripod - I have rigged up a Think tank harness to carry it like a back pack -
I take that back - my husband carries it but that works well too-

I use the non-padded version of this bag, it's a little expensive compared to other offerings but worth the cost IMO - I thought it was more suitable to my needs than purchasing the strap by Manfrotto or Op-Tech.
