Hey guys!

I've been wanting to shoot Hamilton, Ontario's smokestacks for a while now, and today I got my chance. This is one of my best shots of the night. C&C most welcome!

I think that looks awesome. I wish we had something like that in Seattle... I'd try changing your white balance though. It'd look way better with a tungsten setting done to it. At least I think so.

In order to have something like this in Seattle, you first have to get the populous to let go of their trees...

:lol::p

Wall worthy for sure. Very well done.

Thanks for the comments guys! I really appreciate it!

As for the white balance - I actually did try a tungsten setting when I was experimenting with the RAW processing for it, and it did look a bit better... But ultimately I was going for a "fiery" look, and decided against it, adding the reddish hue in PP. I think it suits the photo's character a little more...

Nice... Everytime I drive over the skyway bridge I wish I had my camera with me... and I keep telling myself I have to go back at night time. is this from the pier below the bridge??

Nope. It's actually from Burlington, from a quiet residential area across the bay. I spent a long time driving all around there scouting for locations... the best view is probably from skyway bridge, but stopping there was out of the question... I also tried driving around the industrial area itself to see if I can get some cool shots with a wide angle lens, but the factories are too spaced apart to get a dramatic view, and there are tons of threatening surveillance/guard dog/"trespassers will be shot"/etc.. signs, so it turned out that it's best shot from a distance. :lol:

Great shot Alex! Hamilton is not the prettiest of cities but we all benefit from the steel they produce. This shot does give it a degree of redemption as it's quite stunning at night, as you've captured.

Did you look at shooting from LaSalle Park or the marina? Both offer quite good locations as well.

Very nice, love the reflections. we have a sugar mill near us that is very interesting at night, I must go there and get some shots.

All I need is a round tuit!

Well, I'd say it's quite multifaceted. It also has quite a number of waterfalls which are very beautiful!

Yes, I actually passed by LaSalle park after I got the posted shot. I actually liked my location a bit more, since it was up on a little hill, and I felt that it gave me a slightly better perspective, rather than being at water level.

The waterfalls are definitely a plus and there's certainly a lot of them thanks to the escarpment drop off. I still feel there are many cities across North America that can trump Hamilton, then again I'm a little sore for being amalgamated into the "New City" against my will and seeing no benefit for the huge increase in property taxes we now have to pay :(
