Hey, I've been trying to take some decent night shots with my SD 700. I've had little luck. I've posted some pictures below, the subjects and compositions are non desirable but right now I am trying to get color and clarity down.

I tired multiple isos (80-400), white balances, and used a tripod and timer. Long exposures were not an option, even the shortest long exposure (1) would make the picture too white. Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

You're over-reaching he camera's capabilities. You'd need all the negative EC you can use to tone down the lights and you're still pushing the limits. You really need a camera with a M setting so you can set the shutter speed and aperture that work for the lights. The SD series are going to try to evenly expose the whole scene and with bright lights at night, something has to give.

it's possible if you're taking a picture of one bright object... and if you have a tripod but otherwise a large scene with multiple lights seemed like it was impossible when i had an SD1000, otherwise just like Jon said you'll prolly have to get a more suited camera.

i did manage to get images such as this though, but i never really succeeded in mostly dark urban environments

Yea, that's what I was thinking.

Thanks for the responses.
