This game is to help those of us who are trying to learn new tricks when it comes to editing.

Here's the breakdown of the game. I will post a picture that I choose, resized to exactly 800 pixels maximum on the long side. Outside of being resized it has to be unedited...meaning no adjustments to any levels, it has to look like it did as it came out of the camera.

The game will last 48hrs and whoever can produce the best edited image (as judged by me) will be picked and it'll be their turn to post their unedited picture for all of us to take a crack at.

The participants must have their "Image Editing OK" turned on and they must provide at least a simple breakdown of how they edited the image, some entrants are a little vague on this point, please give us all details so we can learn and share tips. For instance if you use the unsharp mask tool or Smart Sharpen, provide us with the adjustments you used so others can try them out.

You can post multiple images, but the first image you post will be the one that is judged - all other images will be considered for knowledge and tip use only.

Also, please keep all comments, be they positive or negative, to yourself until after the game has ended.

If you happen to be the winner of the game please start the next one with the title of the game and the following number. For example…the next game should read (Before and After #38)

This is all about having fun so have at it!!!

This game will end on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 10pm

Started in Dynamic HDR to make a wide range of adjustments to the colors without cartooning it
Changed the hue of foliage to a slight red
Grabbed some CC zombies off flickr (except one which was off the interwebz)
-- Annoyingly extracted each one then decided to only use two *slap self*
Grabbed ravens similarly and extracted
Duplicated left zombie to maintain color...
B&W everything else (previous steps just pre-emptive changes for desired B&W effect)
Changed hue to grayish-blue
Monday Morning ~10% opacity
Went back to colored zombie layer:
-- ~20% Opacity + Duplicate Overlay + Duplicate Multiply
Flatten + Duplicate + Add Monochromatic noise (low opacity)
Repeat previous + gaussian blur
-50% delete left zombie to restore some detail for proximity
+ Contrast
Border+Resize

--Just wanted to note, I had absolutely no idea what to do with this picture so I took a dramatic route. Looked like a dead & deserted town, so why not take advantage of it. I was just hoping there was a closer window... I had the perfect picture in my head  It seems when I don't know what to do I go the dark route.. must be my King upbringing!

It looks like the first two posts were on the same wave length

I'm not sure if I remember everything that I did, but I will give it a try ...

Cropped first
Added some lighting effects
Added a UFO
Added Ozzy
Diffuse glow
Diffuse Anisotropic
Adjusted hue and saturation
Render 3D Tranformation of the sky
And if I think of anything else ... I will post it.

This was fun :p

Goodness Sonof Darwin I wasn't expecting that one!
LOL

This should be fun... I'll edit this post when I have completed my take on the image. :)
EDIT:
- took out the stop sign and the one side of the street.
- added in sky and grass
- fixed edging
- boosted color
- added playground
- blurred tree and grass image
- softened playground image and desaturated it
- matched sky color between the two images
- ran noise remover
- new adjustment layer played with hue/saturation
- lowered transparency of that layer
- merged
- applied a boarder
- added noise
- ended there because I desperately needed to do something else.

Here's my go:

1. Convert original image to sepia tone
2. Divide into three portions w/ aspect ratio 4:5
3. Added white border to each followed by 5 pixel gray border to replicate Polaroid
4. Added text to bottom of "Polaroids"
5. Created new background border w/ dark blue color
6. Arranged layers to overlap 3 separate Polaroid images
7. Resize to post

Tried to tone map this one, but that wasn't going to work. So tried a different approach.

-Duplicated the image and created a low key filter with Nik Software
-To darken it of course what else, but a layer with a darken setting and filled in the sky with black
-With the polygonal lasso tool I chose the light and outlined a spotlight area, filled that selection with white, and then rendered some lightning effects with a light blue and white. (was going to for the newer LED light, not the old school yellow) I smudge the edges of it to blend it better
-Painted some stars in and a created a mask to fill in the areas that I wanted the stars. Added an outer glow effect on the stars
-Levels
-Border

:( I don't know why I can't see it.

It's just a black picture on this end and by your description I'm missing so much that this image is!

Is it just me or can others see it?

Try viewing it in a totally dark room, then you'll see it. Otherwise light glare kills it.

Yeah even on my laptop I can see it and it's infamous for being dark. Then again our computer room is like the bat cave. I'd try thesonofdarwin's suggestions.

At first I didn't think I was going to be able to do anything with this one because I couldn't figure out how to get my ideal onto the screen but finally figured something out.

-Added graveyard ( picture from laterose-stock on deviantart)
-Added tree
-added clouds and lighting
-turned the whole thing b&w
-used a bleach bypass filter
-added fog
-added vignette and border

TheSonOfDarwin won this comp.
The edit initially made me go 'what tha hell?!" and after looking it over made me think of the vidgy game House Of The Dead.

Congrates...all very creative edits...which I always like to see.
