I have been looking online for accessories that will fit the Calumet Genesis lights and besides the Elinichrome ones here are the ones that I think will fit
http://www.interfitphotographic.com …es/Accesories%20index.htm (external link)
I have not see either these lights or the accessories but these look like they will fit.
I have two of the Genesis 400's and am looking at getting 2 of the 200's for a background and hair light

There are plenty of softbox/octabox solutions available for the Genesis lights. The problem is finding non-Elinchrom brand reflectors, grids, beauty dishes, snoots, and barndoors that will fit the Elinchrom mount. The Interfit lights appear to use a Bowens-compatible mount so their reflectors, grids, etc. will not work on the Genesis units. The Interfit softboxes can be equipped with a variety of speed rings so mounting them on Elinchrom compatible lights would not be an issue.

Scroll down to the bottom of the page there are two accesories that I think will fit the snoot and the barndoors. I also contacted Interfit to see if they had a version of their beauty dish that would fit. They did not and as far as the person answering my e-mail knew they were not planning on making one. Interfit doesn't want to come out and say that their entry-level EX and EXD accessories are Elinchrom compatible. However, I did find one seller on ebay's UK site that is less reticent:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk …ry=3860&_trksid=p3907.m29 (external link)

Both Adorama and B&H use the stock Interfit photo on their sites. That photo does not show the rear mount. This UK site does show the snoot's rear end:

http://www.fotosense.co.uk ….asp?productID=5306&tabID (external link)=

It certainly looks Elinchrom-like. I couldn't find a photo of the mount side of the barn doors.

At $30 for the snoot and $35 for the barn doors, are you going to be the forum's guinea pig, John?

Dave,

refresh my memory. Is the problem with the barn doors that they need to mount to the "standard" size reflectors and the ones that come with the genesis kit are a different size? Therefore, in addition to buying the barn doors, you would need to buy the new reflectors to fit?

No I am on a purchasing freeze mandated by the family's CEO (wife). After I bought the Genesis 400's and a couple or three or four other things plus E-bay. I am now not allowed near a camera store, electronic store without what my wife refers a "Adult supervision. On a more serious note some of the Rizt camera stores near me have the Interfits in stock but not on display. I have been waiting for them to put them out so I can look at the reflector mount and I usually carry the cover piece for the flashtube with us when we shop so I can compare. I was hoping someone else here had looked at Interfits stuff and could tell us if it fit

For barndoors try the set for the interfit EX / EXD range, from the looks of the pictures the reflectors are the same 8 /14" and they only cost about £35

On the topic of softboxes.

I purchased the Calumet SpeedRing with Elinchrome adapter today. I also purchased the Calumet Nova 22 soft box.

Very nice kit I should have purchased the tick larger 32 box, but the speedring flips into final position so you don't have to wrestle with the tent poles in the box.

All in all a very nice ring. It's also nice that the boxes can work with any lights you may buy later. The nova is the cheap box and even some of those include internal diffusers.

So I would have to say the Elinchrome speedring from Calumet is worth the $80 asking.

Did you happen to look at the Calumet Illuma soft boxes? Those look *very* interesting.

Yes it's just a nicer better quality box with an interior better suited toward a more natural whiter light. But given that I'm using them on the Genesis 200w lights I felt an illuma might be over kill. Plus the smallest illuma is 22x32, I went for the smallest Nova at 16x22. Indoors in my small house this is fine for now, in the garage I may want something bigger soon.

If I had the Calumet/Bowens lights I might have went for the nicer box, but I was also leery a super nice large box may over burden the light stand and super light Genesis lamp.

Well, I can confirm that the Genesis light stand mount is extremely wimpy. I find I have to torque the handle down very tightly to prevent the light from flopping forward under fairly moderate loads. A few days ago it flopped forward with only my Speedotron beauty dish mounted.

Whenever possible, I avoid the Genesis mount. I've modified my Amvona softbox speedrings by drilling and tapping 3/8" holes in their edge so I can mount the speedring directly to a manly umbrella swivel. The Genesis then just hangs in space supported by the speed ring. Photoflex rings apparently come with threaded 3/8" holes.

However, I really don't think a 22" x32" Illuma would be a problem for the Genesis mount. The Illuma boxes are very shallow significantly shortening the "moment" arm that the mount sees.

Well I finally got a purchase to get the speed ring. Wanted to finally use that SB I bought months ago. Well using http://www.bhphotovideo.com …_Ring_for_Elinchrome.html (external link) the adapter does not fit my Amvona universal. I will get pics tonight. Have others had luck with this combo?
