Hi there,
I am looking at possibly buying this lense - Sigma 170 - 500mm F5 - 6.3 APO. currently it is used on a 35mm canon eos 50e. the person selling does not know if it will work on a digital canon. i am going to see it hopefully tonight but if any one could give me advice i would appreciate it. i am looking at it for my canon 300d. :D

Cheers

Andy

It might - some older Sigma lenses will not work properly on modern digital bodies, although some can be re-chipped by Sigma (Free I believe?) to allow them to work.
All you can do is try it on your body.

Thanks for that - the good news is it fits my camera and works fine, but i dont know if it would be an EF or an EF-S fitting and the instruction book with it is extreamly basic! would any one know what it might be. i know it is not important for my current camera which takes both, but i am trying to ensure if i buy it it will work on any future upgrades to the camera side of things

Thanks

Andy

It would be EF. EF-S is only made by Canon and they have a protrusion. Sigma labels their lenses as DC if they're for crop bodies but they have no protrusion...just a smaller image circle.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Unless you get a chance to try it out before buying, I'd pass.

I use one for motor sport on a 30D.

I think it's pretty good for the money. A Canon "L" it isn't, but as with everything else, you get what you pay for.

Mine's "sweet spot" is around f/8 - f/11.
