When a new camera is purchased does it come with the post recent firmware updates or does that need to be done upon opening?
Depends. I just got a 7D a week ago, and it still has 1.2.2.

Mine came with 1.2.2 as well. Not sure if I need the update or not for my purposes, or is it best to always update? Canon 7D

Not sure if I need the update or not for my purposes, or is it best to always update? Mine came with 1.2.2, while I had a blank CF card I upgraded it to 1.2.3. No real advantage I guess but may well take anything Canon give out for free.

I only have 4gb CF cards and truly dont want to buy a 2gb card to do the 2.0.3 firmware update from the 1.0.4. C&C Always Welcome
