I recently took a vacation to Myrtle Beach SC, with some family members and my girlfriend. I took hundreds of pictures, when I got home, I put my card in the computer to upload them. But all the files came up as a "CR2" instead of a "JPG". How do I open them up in a program, or atleast upload them to my computer?

Thanks
Stephen

You need to use a RAW convertor, such as DPP, Lightroom, Capture One, Adobe RAW convertor, Bibble

Thats a RAW file, it is pretty much the digital "negative". This is good b/c it stores more information then JPG, which uses compression. To Change the CR2 files into JPG, you'll need a program like Adobe Photoshop or any program that can read Canon RAW files. I believe your camera should have come with some Canon software that can handle that format. From there you can convert/export them into JPG or whichever format you want.

Either use the software that came with your camera, or if you're using XP you can download the raw file viewer from Microsoft which will allow you to view the raw files.

Microsoft stopped updating the RAW viewer add-on to Windows XP, so you will not find the newer model cameras listed in the supported RAW list

If you were expecting jpegs and got CR2 RAWs instead, it sounds like one of your camera settings got changed by accident. If you look at Page 60 of the manual, you'll find the information about changing the settings.
