I am totally new to the forum and totally new to RAW photography!

I have been given some advice by one of your members via another forum and felt it best to join here where I can ask specific questions :D

This is my first attempt at changing an image in RAW mode and photoshop. (attached)

I would now like to learn how to modify pictures in CS2 - mainly creating greyscale images and creating colour patches within it. For example my daughters photos I would like greyscaled with only her eyes remaining blue and such like.

Can anyone offer me a simple way to do this - I am so not good with technical terms hehe

Should have maybe added I don't have a majorly fancy camera - currently using a Fuji S9600 and occasionally a Fuji S5500 for which I have no additional lenses or anything :)

Thanks in advance and please feel free to offer advice over my attached photo which I forgot to remove the green bits off lol

Layer mask is your friend for doing selective colour spotting.

Copy the original photo of your daughter in to a new layer. Desaturate this layer and adjust contrast etc until you are happy with the B&W image. Add a layer mask to this image layer, and ensure the mask is filled with white (white allows your image to be seen - and you want the B&W image to be dominant).

Select a suitably sized brush and with black selected as your colour, paint over your daughter's eyes. Black stops the B&W showing, and allows the colour from the image in the lower layer to show through.

If at any time you make a mistake, just paint back with white and try again.

Hope that is clear enough for you to follow.

Here's a very good tutorial. It includes step by step and some screenshots. Hope that helps.
