on my old S1 I noticed that after my wife used it 2 weeks ago that the screen sometimes flickers with offset blueish line colors, espically when its first turned on. It doesnt do it everytime, just usually after it sets for a few days. Any ideas as to whats wrong? Its old, so its day is coming(one reason i got the XTI now). I know she ran the batteries dead but I doubt that would have any long effect on the camera?

But again, when its first turne don you can see lines and flickers shoot across the screen like its a old flick on TV

check the service advisory on the front page, call Canon and describe what's happening. Odds are you will get a new camera?

I sent them a email:) But that seems like my issue. One of the photos taken with the lines across it is how my screen looks off and on! Those purple or blue lines across it and it flickers in and out. It just happened out of nowhere so thats why I was asking.

well i finally had the S1 shipped off for the repairs and I got the box back yesterday. They ended up sending me a S5 in its place. Its a refurb though, but works just fine and much better than the old S1! The thing is, I was debating between getting a S5 and the rebel XTI. I ended up with the XTI and now I have the S5 to LOL. So after all this, I end up with both cameras thanks to Canons service and offering to repair the S1's screen issue. I cant thank canon enough. Now I know why I only buy their products:cool:;)

oh and my wifes happy cause now she has a camera again that she can use. For some reason turning the XTI's lens to zoom is a hassle to her:p

still the XTI is hands down better but the S5 is easy to point and shoot of coarse for her:) Also, the jpegs are pretty good from the S5.

I sold my S1 to a coworker for $100 with all kinds of filters, camera bag, hood, etc. The next day it started getting lines across the screen, etc. He sent it back to Canon and they sent him back an S5. Talk about a good deal.......for him.

bayou, it should have a sticker on the bottom that says refurb and also the box it was shipped in should say it.

I was about to sell my S1 a week before I had issues for 125bucks.. glad I kept it now LOL

Some people received S3 refurbs, others S5 refurbs and others new S5. I am beginning to wonder where/why they have so many refurbs of these other models. Are we S3/S5 folks looking at repair issues to be creeping up?

mine says refurb nowhere? guess i got a new one, it does say china, but i don't care? i have seen the posts on this yada yada, china, japan? they still have to meet canon specs and for me to get a new one for a 4 year old one with double the specs makes me thank canon even more, i'll bet a lot of people are missing the boat on this, though?
