Whether or not to buy a telephoto prime has been bugging me for a loooong time, 400mm 2.8 is what I want but can't afford; 300mm 2.8 is fine but sometimes is short, then I thought I'd use 1.4x TC to go with it. I don't really have enough money to actually buy it, but I've been lurking around some sites where they offer 9 months interest free credit payment plan.

Out of blue, I dialed warehouseexpress.co.uk(it was a long break between lectures, and I was bored) ... after speaking to sale rep about my intention just to check to see if I can get credit approval, they say they'd call me back. Knowing a student who's already in debt, who'd give me money?

So I thought ...

5 minutes later, they called me back, after confirm my name and address, they said "You credit has been approved and we are sending you a form for you to sign, lens is at warehouse waiting for dispatch" ... I was stunned, "OKay" ... I said.

Then I realised that I just bought a Canon 300mm 2.8 IS L!

I hate when that happens! That baby is a sweet performer and the TC does it no harm.

I've just sent out 3 emails asking for jobs, hope somebody needs something covered so I can make some money back to pay for this "baby".

gmen, I thought about 300mm 2.8 IS over 400mm 2.8 IS, price is one thing, secondly I have more use of it than 400mm. With this one, I can shoot both indoor and outdoor events, while 400mm would be a bit too long for indoor ones.

Now I just need to buy a 2x TC to accompany the 1.4x, then I'm set!

Don't feel bad - I've had a few "accidents" in the last year or two myself. :)

That should be a sweet lens.

hehe. I have a Sigma 70-200F2.8 reserved for pickup at Park Cameras this weekend.

I hope they don't have any 20D's in stock! ;)

Well, now I'll have to work out a very detailed plan on how to make enough money out of this by-far-the-most-expensive-piece-of-L, just to pay for itself!

Regrets? Hell no!

I can see accidents like this happen in the future, a few more times, say 400mm 2.8 IS, and a pair of 1D MK II's? ... I can foresee the future

Are you talking about this (external link) $3700 lens? That's damned expensive, i'd have thought the only people who bought that would be loaded or professionals who need it. The 400mm lens is about $6K!!!
