I traveled to Europe a year ago with my A95 and came home with plenty of great memories...and good shots...
the XTI would be a great UPgrade for you...
I prefer the XT as it's a bit bigger and fits me better than the XTI, but if I had been given the choice I'd probably go for the XTI...with the 24-85 for day and 35/2 at night it'd be a great combo...
I read that the new 450 (XSI?) is supposed to be more the size of the XT so if I were buying now, I'd get the 450...but of course that's more than 2x the XT price, and for me, carrying around a cam in all conditions means not having to worry about anything, so the XT would still by my choice (and not just because I got it for less than free!)...
Good luck...

OK my husband just convinced me to wait before I decide what to do. He said maybe the medication they want me to try will work wonders and I'll feel better and be able to use the 30D. Personally I agree. I love this camera and worry about giving it up. If I feel better I'll keep it. If not then I may just be getting the XT or the XTi and trading the 100 for the 60. We'll see

Thanks for all your help.

1/2 pound isn't much of a difference.. I have a 40D and had an XTi, there wasn't really a noticeable difference to me anyways.

At the risk of heresy here, if you seriously need a lightweight system then consider Olympus or possibly Pentax.

That's help a bit, I can no way take my 30D everywhere, one of the reasons I was thinking of a P&S.

Nothing wrong with a P&S. I got a Fuji pocketable jobby the other week for the same reason (not health, just don't-wanna-lug-it-all-ness). It doesn't have any manual controls, but it's got a P mode that was programmed better than the P mode of my dSLRs.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

Here's the link to the Olympus E-420 news on Dpreview http://www.dpreview.com …3/08030501olympuse420.asp (external link). At 13.4 oz it's as light as you can get a DSLR.

That thing looks really cool with that little 25 2.8 on it. Would be a fun alternative to a P&S.

Yes!

That's a review of the Pentax 40mm and 70mm "pancake" lenses--they're super-thin. Watch the video at the end of the review (the last tab in the review navigation) to see just how small these lenses are. They also have a 21mm f/3.2 pancake. All 3 pancakes combined weigh less than a Canon 24-105L.

Combine those with one of the lighter Pentax SLRs like the K200D and you have an amazingly lightweight system.
