Good bye to Windows forever. After using nothing but Windows for as long as there has been Windows, I finally got fed up with all the Windows BS. Bought a MacBook Pro, 4 gigs ram, fairly maxed out. All I can say is what the hell have I been thinking all these years.

Now it was an expensive switch, had to buy Mac Software, CS3, MS Office for MAC, I know I know but I needed Word as I have about a billion documents in Word format, besides Word 08 for the Mac is outstanding. I am not going to run Vista or any other POS Microsoft operating system on it either. I also went with the complete Nik software program/plugins as well, which are way cool.

I wasn't crazy about the no forward delete but I remedied that with a very cool little program which was free which remaps the keyboard. So now I have SHIFT DELETE which gives me the very necessary forward delete capability. I am also not crazy about how the mouse and touchpad work, but its all a matter of just getting used to it. Oh, and the keyboard lights up in the dark, how cool is that.

Did I say this thing is fast, well it is really fast. Not once have I seen spinning circles, or flashing hourglasses, all while the hard drive light is flashing relentlessly. Now I just hope this baby doesn't get the Microsoft/Windows blues and start slowing down in 6 months like every other windows machine I have ever used.

I could go on and on and on. Thank you Apple. I HAVE FINALLY SEEN THE LIGHT, AND IT IS MOST EXCELLENT!

I hear they'll even sell you extra bulbs for that light (only $99.95 each) ;)

Seriously though: Good to know you found something that works for you.

That's half the battle in all things...

LOL! Yes, but they won't match your existing fitting, so you need to buy new light sockets. And in most cases, they won't run on the same power grid as everyone else's light bulbs.

by law you can only use those bulbs in authorised fittings. and the illuminated light switch is extra cost again. oh and it will cost extra for anything other than pearl bulbs.

Hi there! Would you mind sharing the name of this wee program! I am a recent convert and I miss this too!

Thanks

Glad to see another convert over to the Mac :D

Just so you know, NeoOffice is a Mac version of OpenOffice.org. I've been using it for about two years and have never needed to go back to MS Office. It opens Office docs and even resaves them in Office format. Just an FYI ;)

Glad you are happy with the switch. But you could have saved the money on MS office. Open Office is a freeware the includes clones of Word, Power point, a spread sheet, and a few other things I never use. But I prefer the Open Office Writer to Word any day. Being open scorce it is full of features. If you like Word it is not a hard switch at all. www.openoffice.org (external link)

The only annoying problem I am having with my MacBook Pro is that when it goes to sleep for extended periods of time, it will not wake up and I have to do a hard boot....this issue needs to be fixed by Apple.

Made the switch last year. Just the regular MB though. Upgraded to 2 gig. Works well. No more XP/Vista for me.

On my Powerbook Fn-Delete does the trick, without any remapping of the keyboard ;)

That happens to me as well. I sometimes find that tapping a key a few times or closing and opening the lid again will sort the problem out. The computer is fine, it's just the display that won't wake up properly.

The FN + delete key forward deletes by default. Or are you talking about something completely different?

I'm probably going to buy one this coming week. Glad to see this thread might help confirm I'm making a good decision...

Are color spaces easier to deal with on the Macbook Pro? I'm getting tired of messing with it on my PC laptop. I fully intend to calibrate every few months or so on the Macbook but I just never could get my PC nailed down for color no matter how much I calibrated and read up on it. It was a constant pain and one that I'm hoping I can not have to worry about anymore.
