i looked thru the post that came before this one, which held little info. I was wondering if anyone else has purchased this lens recently and what you think of it. I looked on http://www.fredmiranda.com/ (external link) and there is no review for it.

so i've checked my bases everyone.

now, I'm not really looking for the most awesome L glass image, i'm just looking for something about 200mm.

good buy?

It's a good beginner's lens. It's wicked cheap, it's light, it takes decent shots, etc... I picked it up to complement my kit lens b/c I didn't think that photography would grip me unmercifully with total disregard for finances. Now I would like some better lenses though and I'm considering upgrading. But for $200 it's a great buy.

You know what, in reviewing my photos, I realize that I haven't used the lens in a while and that it's actually pretty good after all. Stand by a little while and I'll put up an image if you'd like.

Ok, I've taken 3 random images shot with the 55-200 in JPEG mode and, without further processing, I've taken 100% crops and stuck them on this site:

Click on them a couple times to zoom in to the actual size.
