Hi guys

Last time I made wrong title, and put alpine skiing photos under ski jumping title of thread. This time I double checked, and put photos they need to be under this title. :)
10 days ago this years skiing season definitely ended. At least as my shooting goes, but I still hope I can get another few days of skiing myself. As normally at this time of the year, my season ends with shooting FIS Ski jumping World cup finals in Planica, Slovenia. Ski jumpers were flying on World's biggest hill (K215, and current world record of 239 meters), while photographers were enjoying nice weather and last batch of 4 days work for this season. This year, we were lucky and got 3 days of sunny and quite warm weather, only one day of rain, and at least for me, nice dinner with Finnish team. Last year on the other side, we had one sunny day and 3 days of rain and snow.

Anyway... here are few photos, and I tried to pick a bit different ones, not standard ski jumping photos.

And for good bye from season 2007-08, photo of good bye between Janne Ahonen, third in this years overall World cup, who just announced, he's quiting his ski jumping career, and his coach Tommi Nikunen, who also announced quitting his positions as coach of Finnish team. So for both this was last race in their positions.

Janne Ahonen of Finland (L) saying good bye to his coach Tommi Nikunen (R) in outrun of Planica ski flying hill after last race of FIS Ski jumping World Cup finals in Planica, Slovenia.

That would be all. If I will find time and will, I will try to make small compilation of my best 2007-08 skiing photos once in (near) future. Otherwise, more skiing will come sometime on the end of November when 2008-09 season of skiing World cups starts :)

PS: Just that there won't be some misunderstanding. With me, comments, critiques, and all what goes with it, are warmly welcome! Good, and especially bad ones!

Take care,
Primoz

Here is my feedback :)

#1 - Love it,
#2 - I would have liked to have seen more of the background. Other than that I like it
#3 - I like the angle and foreground
#5 - Nice but clean that sensor. Just by he jumpers right ski tip
#6 - Have to tried B & W. I lover shaddows in black and white.
#7 - Superb timing to get the flex in the skis

Whats next then (after a bit of sking and resting)?

Darren

Done :) I cleaned it on evening when I saw those photos :) I didn't notice it before, and part of this was because it was a while since I had pleasure to shoot with nice blue sky. But it's clean again :)

What next? Ice hockey national championships finals, probably at least some Adriatic basketball league playoffs, and then cycling season slowly starts already, so fun begins all over again. I don't think it summer will be all that boring :)

For this you need a bit of luck. It's really really short time when skis are bent like this, so one very short fraction of time sooner or later, and you are without anything. Normally I don't do this kind of photos, if I know, I won't have chance for something good before or after that. When being down in radius of ski jumping hill, this is only option for photos, so if you don't catch right timing, you are without any photos. So not right way to play when you need to have photo :) But normally there are at least 2 series, sometimes even 3, so one series spent there doesn't hurt that much :)

They're all top quality... but #1 is a boat-floater if ever I've seen one ;)

Great work.

What an awsome post.... Primoz shows what he does best - love your stuff as always - and as a bonus we get a gmen sighting too. What more could you ask for.

Thanks for all comments guys. For first one I was a bit lucky. It was late enough, that sun just came over mountains (those which you can see in background of second photo) and lit spectators in bottom of the hill. That single training session on Thursday was only day, and only series, where I got such photos. On other days, I was on top of hill too early or too late to catch such moment. But for my excuse, I was too late or too early because times of competition were set diferently, not because I would want to sleep longer. To be honest I would love to sleep longer and not get out of bed at 5am, but... :)

So very similar photos from Saturday's competition looks like this:

IMAGE: http://www.photo.si/img/sport/spo_skijump_20080315nw_0103.jpg

It's very similar as composition and timing goes, but due lack of right light, it just doesn't work same way.
So sometimes, luck is needed too, if you want to have cool photos :)

Excellent series. However angle and framing in #2 and #3 does not work for
me. But hey, thats just me :D Your timing is just fantastic. Just curious, how much you have to crop
these and what is your average keeping rate when shooting ski jumping?
Like #6 seem to be very difficult to frame properly in that hectic moment, but
I may be wrong. I would really like to see your 07-08 ski jump compilation
