20D or 300D ?

I am debating between 20D and 300D. With the mail in rebates, the 300D
plus two L lenses would cost the same thing as 20D with the stock lens.
I know i can do the firmware update on 300D to make it function like 10D.


Which one is a better deal ? I mainly take pictures of my infant twin boys and i have a small studio in the basement for the boys.

What do you suggest? Right now I am using D60.

I would suggest the 20D...........especial​ly if you're coming from the D60.

.......how about getting 3 L lenses (triple rebate?? and wait for a cheap USED D Rebel.

I would see no reason at all to "switch" from a D60 to a 300D... (notice I do not say upgrade) The D60 is pretty much the better camera, with the only advantage the Rebel has being better high ISO noise.

So... in my humble opinion,.. either go 20D or stick with your D60.

I would have to concur with CDS. If not the 20D, stay where you are.

Buy the glass.

Why not keep using the D60 and buy even more/better glass?

I don't know what lenses you are using now, but in my experience, having the lens you need and having a good quality lens makes more difference to your photos than the camera you stick it on.

But----there is an advantage to a better body if you are doing action photos and can get a camera that auto focuses faster than the D60.

Once you have good glass it will be useful on whatever future camera you get (unless Canon changes systems again) so it is a long term investment. The way digital cameras are changing and improving, even a 20D will seem incompetent in about 5 years. If you have to defer your camera purchase a year or two in order to purchase lenses, you will probably end up with a better camera, possibly at a lower price when you do buy.

The reason I want to move to 300D is better ISO noise. D60 is a nice camera but after ISO 400, I can see a lotta noise. I mean I take a lot of pictures of my boys inside te house and sometimes in the nite. Thats when is the problem. So, 300D is not a ood option for that ?

I'd say get the lenses but not the 300D, and stay with the D60. You didn't say which two lenses you're looking at, but maybe you can push to a wider max. aperture to make up for the ISO noise, and roll in a couple of fast primes (nifty fifty, 35 f/2 or 85 f/1.8 say). No need to get the 20D with stock lens; if you already have lenses with the D60, you should have that covered. That and a fast prime, say the 35 for inside work, may do for you.

Get the lenses and a 420 or 550EX?

If interior shooting is the issue.. nothing will solve it like a good fast lens and a 550EX Then you can shoot at 400 or 200ISO and not be underexposed (underexposure makes the noise a LOT worse)

Is there a rebate on the flash these days too?

And... if low noise is the main reason for the upgrade.. I'm back to recomending the 20D. Why get a 300D which has marginally better/lower high ISO noise when the 20D had MUCH better/lower high ISO noise?

Good point. The 420 and 580 are eligible for a different rebate (can't triple up), but they'll certainly help with fast-moving kids indoors more than the higher ISO would.

Right now, I use D60 with 28mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8, 28-135.
I am thinking of getting EF 70-200mm f/4L, 17-40L lenses.
I do have a Sigma EF500 super flash which i hardly use.

If I upgrade the firmware on 300D, wouldn't it be same as 10D ?
