Caught this BCNH by surprise (and vice-versa) when I was walking down a wooded path looking for the local great-horned owls. None of these guys were seen last year at Presque Isle State Park (although they do occasionally migrate through) so he made the "unusual bird sightings" list for the local Audubon chapter :) . I had to do some photoshopping of foreground limbs and it could really use some more but I'll save that for another day.

Thanks MrB. Kudos to your shots of the immature BCNH; I just checked them out!

much prettier than the Grey Heron patrolling the pond at work today, I like the lighting in the second shot.

Very nice Michele. I have yet to see one of these, thought they were as Southern bird. :)

Mine too Sindri. He was much higher up in the tree for the first shot, tough angle.

They occasionally migrate through here. None were spotted last year on the park. The Cornell range map shows them all the way up in to Canada during the summer and even on the Great Lakes near Wisconsin it looks like year round! There's probably one right in your back yard!

I just looked. Nope, none here. Just some Cardinals and Titmice. :)

Maybe if you put in a pond and stock it with some nice little fish!? :)
