I am interested in this unit, price seems ok at $349 CDN, anyone have one, any thoughts?

I have a Manfrotto 190CL now which is aluminum and looking for something lighter.

Thanks

Thoughts? I think its over priced for the "minimal" loss in weight that the CF yields... Dont get me wrong though, I like them as I like all CF things, I just think they cost way too much for what you get.

I got the 4 leg 190cxpro4, and really like it a lot. Its extremely sturdy with my 40D and 24-105. I really like the Q90 center column. In the 2 weeks of having this, have already used it a number of times. Was thinking about the Fiesol tripods, but the shipping cost from Taiwan pushed the price significantly, and people tend to stand behind the Manfrotto name. I bought a ballhead (488rc2) at the same time to take advantage of the $50 Manfrotto rebate going on right now (when you buy CF legs and head at the same purchase). I kinda wish I got the 486rc2 sometimes, because the tripod is very light, and the 488rc2 ballhead makes up almost half the total weight. Its still totally easy to travel with though.

This is the same setup I want to get. I want something small enough to carry on an aircraft but not so lightweight as to defeat the purpose of using a tripod in the first place.

I'm still going back and forth between the 486RC2 and 488RC2. Not sure I would use the panning capability enough to justify the added weight and complexity of the 488. Are the plate and lock lever metal or plastic? It looks like plastic but I can't tell for sure.
