Hello all. Just got a 40d and trying to get the hang of the Sigma 70-300. (Already want an upgrade) :)

Anyway, finally got a keeper... mainly because this little guy walked right up to me. I believe it is an Oregon Junco?

I must be getting old... Birds? I never thought it would be this addicting. :)

300mm, 1/60, f8, ISO 400

Welcome to the bird forum! What a lovely photo - I love the way the fence curves round. Nice and sharp and great composition. Can't help you on the ID, don't have them in the UK :D

Thank you SacMac. :)

The "fence" is actually an old wooded half barrel that we planted a bush in.

Welcome to the bird forum.. Can't help with the ID, but you got a lovely shot here. A bit thin on the DOF.. his tail is out of the focus.. but great eyes and tell him t wipe his mouth for the next model shoot :)

DOF... I'm still (always) learning. I would have thought that f8 would have been good. Maybe this has to do with shooting this at 300mm and the subject was only about 10 ft away. Kinda hard to check the DOF when little birdie is there and gone in 5 sec. ;) I guess this comes with experience.

lol... They are well fed around our house.

Welcome to bird forum, love the comp, lighting and DOF. Great shot all round and it looks like your sigma 300 is a lot sharper than my canon 75-300. Look forward to seeing more from you
