Oh, yes. Back about 5 years ago college existed.

And, I guess I need to stop talking to people. I've offended not only co-workers but my in-laws as well. Maybe I should just spend the WHOLE summer with my mom instead of just 2 weeks.

What are they offended about?

Well, that's why America has gotten like it has. Because people cant handle the truth mainly. They are so scared of it that they like to remain in denial and complain when someone "hurts their feelers".

Bah, buck up...

To get your subject in focus, and f/8 is commonly known as a "sweet spot". Once you stop down around f/16-22 you risk sharpness and clarity.

but what is the point of spoting down that far if you are using a 1.4 to begin with? Aren't you going to be using a 1.4 in low-light situations where F/8 would be impractical?

sevillafox wrote in post #5427020 (external link)
Do we need to find kitten a tutorial? :)

no

Jon wrote in post #5427022 (external link)
If you don't want it blurring "everything more than an inch away from from what is in focus" you need to stop down to get greater DoF. Shallow DoF is one of the biggest charms of the wide apertures.

I know you need to stop down for a greater dof but is there any chance of using the wider apertures with low-light and NOT blurring a bunch of the image? I thought that is waht the point of a 1.4 was

PiRho wrote in post #5427031 (external link)
Yup diffraction softening! Kitten listen up i school more often, and you might learn a thing or two :D

They don't teach these things in my school

sevillafox wrote in post #5427037 (external link)
Here kitten....

PhotosGuy's favorite link.....need an exposure crutch?

That doesn't explain about f/stops. Eh, oh well. I guess I'll just have to get out shooting more so I can learn from experience

???

My sister-in-laws are mad that I sent out an email asking about mother's day plans and used the wording...."because I remember how Kay refuses to plan anything for that day," even though I swear she has used the EXACT same wording in the past. So, one said Kay just wants to be a part of one holiday that she doesn't have to plan for. I apologized for poor wording and mentioned that it had been happening to me a lot lately (at work mostly) and the other SIL said, "To sum up...Yes Tiffany, that WAS a poor choice of words and yes, I agree with you that that has been happening a lot lately and A LOT of feelings have been hurt in the process. (FYI)"

The only thing I can think of is the crap that happened last week with Aidan and I told my SIL that he was to stay at her house regardless of whether my MIL wanted him or not. I already had called Corey and he was picking Aidan up from my SIL so I didn't think he needed to be bugged again with another call to pick him up from his mom's. Plus, I was just pissed as hell at her and didn't want to have him. But, that happens.

Now, off to my crappy lunch feeling like an **** yet again.

There are certain situations when you need a large aperture. The further away you are from the subject, the more depth of field you get - no matter what aperture you shoot at. You dont always needs to be in someone's grill for a photograph.

Hope that helps.

eh, I thought the dof got smaller with increased distance (i.e. background compared between short FL lens and long FL lens).

On-line DoF calculator (external link). Go play! DoF gets bigger as you get further away, but it's actually most directly related to subject magnification. DoF with a 50 mm at f/4 and 10 ft. will be about the same as that of a 100 mm f/4 at 20 ft, a 200 at 40 ft. or a 400 at 80 ft.

Tough one Tiffany. Family's can be a pain. My brother and law and his wife are currently getting separated after 21 years of marriage. I'd like to bang both their heads together over and over until they'd smarten up.

Just finished lunch here. Anybody ever have a pb&bacon sandwich? Mmmmm.

Yeah, extended families suck especially when you're used to only being related to 2 people in the whole state. But, I'm beginning to think some of my troubles may be related to some kind of pre-partum depression if there is such a thing. Either that, or I just don't have the energy to sugar coat everything and put up with crap anymore.
