... in the USA

Soon after that, DPP 1.5 will finally be available for download alongside EVU 1.2.1 and EOS capture 1.2

According Canon Inc. USA's Chuck Westfall, here is the link to the story (external link)

Do you think it is a coincedence that the 15th is my birthday and that the missus hasn't told me what I'm getting for my birthday yet ? ;)

Did anyone follow the Canon link on the story page? Buried in the Canon site there is a display of the ISO capabilities. Identical shots from 50 to 3200.

The 100 is like Velveeta Cheese. The 400 is almost indistinguishable from the 100. The 1600 is as good as the 400 on my 10D and the 3200, while needing Noise Ninja is actually servicable.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, I want one. 1600 as my walkaround! Wow!

How many actual stops is that? From 400 to 1600?

I dont care, I still want one!

I did not pass up the 1Ds, That I could not afford (okay I passed it up for a month or two when I did have the money finally).

I did skip the 1Dm2 because I just don't need the speed and otherwise it was not significantly better then my 10D for what I shoot (models mostly). Mainly because it was still not full frame and it would have been 4500 of my 8000 I needed for the camera I wanted. Also 8MP is not much more then 6.3MP So I passed.

The 1DsMkII on the other hand is a serious upgrade. However, Had it not come out by Photokina or very shortly thereafter, I would have a Kodak SLR/c in my hands by now.

Meanwhile, My local camera store said someone had a 1DsmkII in their hand this afternoon, although they would not say where they got it, but it is apparently theirs permantly now.
The impression I got from the camera store guy was the 1DsmkII owner was being somewhat sly about his having it in hand. But I thought the fact he was buying a 70-200/2.8 non-IS was an interesting tidbit.

My thoughts lean to one of three possibilities;
1. He knows someone high-up at Canon USA as a friend.
2. He has a demo copy and gets to keep it. (maybe bought it)
3. He is someone well known (but not to the camera store) and arranged to get one early (although it leans back to #1)

I thought it strange though that someone who could afford a 1DsmkII would not go for the 70-200/2.8 with IS, instead getting the non-IS version. He has also ordered some other lenses so I am jokingly speculating that he used to be a Nikonite and has made the switch. If not then theory #1 makes a lot of sense to me given needing new Canon lenses to go with the 1DsMkII.

Interesting to say the least.

As far as me, I still have to wait :sigh:

At least the good news is I still have money in Savings.

After this though, I will be passing on a lot of good cameras, unless I win the lottery in the future.

Almost forgot - depending on when the camera does show up, it may be awhile before I can let you all know. If it shows up tomorrow, Monday or Tuesday, I will let you know as soon as I get a chance to play with it and remember to put it down. If it shows up Weds through Saturday, it will be Sunday before I will be online for more then webmail, since I will be traveling and then a model shoot Saturday. There is a possibility of Friday evening if lucky (as in if I remember to put it down long enough to go online). Note: all of this is predicated on a shipment leaving Canon on Monday the 15th being accurate and that I am indeed actually getting one in the initial camera batch. While my luck tends to be good, it has a sense of humor and I fully expect the camera to arrive on Monday 22 Nov, when it will be the longest before I can use it again for my next full planned model shoot in late January. But I have been lucky so far with my camera and this store, so I am hoping that portion of my luck holds out.

I sooooooo want one. And not just because it would go well with
my fountain pen. I need the wider angle with a fast lens.
Something like the 1Ds Mkll and 24 f1,4 or 35 f1,4.

If anybody out there feels like wishing me luck, please, do.
'A windfall' should be coming my way, and I hope it will soon.

Tim is! 8)

As for the "guy" that allready has one and is flaunting it at the local shop looooong before they ever get one in stock...

..I've been that guy twice recently.. (1DMkII and 20D)

Not that I MEAN to flaunt it.. but it seems everytime I end being the first on the block with a new toy.. I allways seem to need to stop into the local shops to pick up an Optech strap or something...

Now they will be disapointed because I will NOT be stopping by to demo the 1DsII... It's waaay out of my league this time. So the shop guys will have to wat untill THEY get one to oo and ahh over. :)

We can allways snap up a used 1Ds as the resale price continues to drop... I expect to see them for less than the 1D MkII debuted any day now (under $4,500.00)

Of course I can't really afford a second $4,500.0 camera anymore than I could afford a single $8,000.00 one...

Im bad at math :P
