It turns out my guess:wink: was correct as Adobe released Lightroom 2.0 Public beta earlier tonight. It can be downloaded from: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom/ (external link)

It will be interesting to hear the comparison of the Dodge and Burn tools in Aperture and Lightroom.

* Localized corrections — Enhance specific areas of an image for unsurpassed nondestructive flexibility and control reminiscent of the traditional darkroom dodge and burn experience.
* Improved organizational tools — Find the images you need quickly and easily.
* Multiple monitor support — Add an additional monitor to efficiently manage photographic workflow and presentation.
* Flexible print package functionality — Create custom layouts containing multiple sizes of a photograph on a single page.
* 64-bit support — Lightroom 2.0 now takes advantage of the latest hardware architectures with improved memory handling and performance.

As usual, I've done a long list of changes:
http://victoriabampton.com/lightroom20beta1whatsnew.htm (external link)

And there are updated shortcut sheets for download at the bottom of that page too.

Great stuff, localised adjustments, post-crop vignetting, new sharpening controls!! Do we need our copies of CS anymore?

Adobe are going to have to seriously convince me to get the next upgrade of PS. Are they doing themselves out of sales here?

Yay for no longer needlessly creating PSD files....

Wonder how much this is going to cost us to upgrade. Version 1.x seemed to be a pretty shortlived product.

Version 1 was released February last year, and I'd guess it'll be another few months at least before version 2 is released properly, so that's a fairly normal upgrade schedule.

Question I want to know is will it be more inline with the US price, i.e. £150 (US) £205 (UK)?

I doubt that will be announced until close to the end of the beta cycle. Upgrades are usually way cheaper than the initial cost though, so it's not going to be huge, I wouldn't have thought.

The creation of a tiff or psd file really hampered my processing time. I even added sata drives so I wouldn't take one drive too long. This is a welcome move.

I'll still use CS3 quite a bit for my sharpening, selective editing (layers) and framing but the integration of the two appears to be nearing completion.

30 day beta?
