Well that is what Canon said.

Was starting to have major issues with focusing then shutter problems, and the whole camera had just been a grumpy snot for a few months. I ended up getting a 40D but since my 20D was still under extended warranty I sent it it so I could use it as a spare.

Needs a new shutter, AF mechanism and a rather expensive PC board to get it going again, sounds like it will be back as good as new :D

I have had it for four years and by my count it has done just under 50000 shots in many conditions, some worse than others (if Moppie reads this I am sure he will post an example).

Anyway nice to know it got good use and didn't just sit on a shelf.

I wore out the shutter on my 20D after about 120K shots in just under 2 years. Did get it repaired though.

I've had my 20D for almost 4 years now with no extended warranty. Average shooter until the past year, as I've started doing events. Working fine, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to send it in to get a "tune-up".

If it ends up that I am close to the max clicks range of the sensor, or motherboard, etc, do those repairs usually cost more than what the camera is now worth?

just curious.

I sold a 20D to a friend who currently has it at Canon after the shutter bit the dust. Total bill including shipping for the rebuild is $305. I believe it lasted about 80K shots.

For $300 he'll have a nice body that should last him a long time.

Mine's either just about to hit 60k or 70k actuations, can't remember which now that I don't have it on-hand... I'm hoping it lasts for quite a few more. It's an awesome body, worth getting repaired if the cost isn't too prohibitive :)

I'm planning on turning it into a back-up anyway, so i guess I'll just wait until it starts giving me attitude. Man do I love my 20D!

Do all the canon's have a count monitor? I have an XT and was wondering the amount of shutter actuations you can have this that body. I have taken many many photos. Maybe I should start saving for a 40D. :) Greg

I know why I never did, I couldn't afford to take 50,000-100,000 shots a year.;)

technically, you can just follow your file numbers, but if you're like most, you might have shared CF cards between 2 cameras while in "continuous" file numbering. In that case, whatever is the higher file# is what continues on that camera. I've done that a few times, so my 20D file numbering is all fouled up.

I believe that the best way to know how many clicks you have is to send it to Canon and they can find that out for you. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Yep I used to get harassed when I would go away and use a roll of film a day for three weeks, heck that is only around 750 shots, I can do that in a day now :D

Ye ole film camera did have nice silver polished film guides though proving it was well loved, no way it did 50K though.

Repair costs here are around $700ish, paid $150 for the extended warranty.

I have about 80K clix on one 20D. It's first shutter died at 27K. Was replaced for right at $200. My other 20D has an unknown number of clix. I bought it used out of the rental fleet at the local shop. I got it cheap enough that even if I have to have the shutter replaced, I'd still be okay on the cost of it. It's done about 10K clix since I got it.
I would think the shutter and the shutter release button are about the only things that can actually 'wear out'.

Regarding film, shooting 60K frames of print film and paying to have it processed would be somewhere around $13K. More than I could afford when I was paying for it !

Also, over the years I spent more on misc repairs and cleaning on my film cameras that I have on the one repair ( shutter ) on my dslr.

I have 24K shots on my XTi, in 6 months, the average death of the XTi sensor is 50k.... So since it takes me forever to save money, I began saving for a 40D 2 months ago, I am planning (If my XTi is still alive) to sell it and grip for $400-$550, then add it to the amount I have saved for a 40D.... If the XTi dies, I might pay to have the shutter replaced\repaired, then sell it for even more, maybe...

The photographer I work for, finally had her 30D die....
At 200k clicks, it finally died... I was amazed at how long it lasted,
