Strange fish - and, I think, a first here. They look a tad underexposed on my monitor, but great shots.
Why do they jump?

I have no idea wy they jump, but they just do it!!
these are tiny fish about 3-4 inchs that only comes out on mud flat when the tide is low!!
sometimes they jump to scare other mud skipper away from thir terrories, but even alone, they still jump.....
each jump last about 0.5 second, quit hard to get quality shots. . .I took over 100 shots today and only these are OK to post. .

great shots - what an interesting subject- did you shoot close to them or used a long lens down low - they look to be about 4-5 inches long

these are 3-4 inch fish that lay on mud flat!!so I cannot get close to them without sinking deep into the mud.....I took these pictures with 300mm F2.8 + Kenko 2X on 30D (Hand held)

I have never heard anyone have them as pets before, cause they feed basicly on the mud, also, they need a good mixture of fresh and salt water since they live on river mouth along the cost line!!But I do know that some people would have them as food. . . . . .
