Not happy with pics of my nefew in Midget AA Toronto City Finals then hopefully Provincials
I have the 40D, and the 70-200 f/2.8 L non IS. I also use a tripod for most of my pictures aimed at the oppositions goalie usually without using the zoom. I also use the remote switch (RS-8N3) , also have 430ex, and 28-135 3.5-5.6. Would like to shoot in TV mode and Raw of courseNever done white balance before and I use Adobe CS3.Shooting advice is very much welcomed. Thanks in advance Gerry Recovering perfectionist Gerry,
Well, you're working awfully hard at this, with all that equipment.
Why the remote switch? Why shoot RAW? A tripod for a 70-200? And a flash? All this for goalie shots? As a former goalie myself, I applaud your dedication.
And, why Tv mode?
First of all, post some pictures so we can see what you're getting.
There have been a TON of hockey threads on this forum over the past 4 months or so. Do a search and spend some time reading.
Here's the Executive Summary, though:
- Don't shoot TV. Shoot manual or Av. Tv is almost never the right mode for sports (with the possible exception of panning a moving subject like a car or biker).
- There should be no reason to use a tripod, let alone a monopod, to shoot with a 70-200 but if you must use one or the other, get a monopod. If you are going to cover any field sports, tripods aren't allowed.
- How are you using the flash? In which mode?
- What is the remote switch for?
- What shutter speeds are you getting? (BTW, the 28-135 isn't a very good sports lens. I know, I had one.)
- There is rarely a reason to shoot RAW IMO. I do this for a living and I almost never shoot RAW. Only under the most extremely horrid lighting will I shoot JPEG + RAW.
