I bought this camera in October 2007 and have had this problem since the beginning. I thought it might be the CR1220 battery and it took me so long to find a replacement, only to find out it didn't make a lick of difference. Now so much time has gone by that I don't know if there is anything I can do.

Everytime I open then close the battery/SD card compartment, regardless of the status of the batteries, the camera will not power on again. It takes several minutes of fiddling with the batteries and/or compartment door and then if I am lucky I might be able to get it to power on and function again.

I am so disappointed.

I sure thought the A570 used two AA batteries.

Yes, it does, but it also takes a CR1220 battery in the same battery compartment.

If it was new in October 2007, it's still under warranty. There's a micro-switch that opening the door opens; this may not be making good contact. Call Canon; they should be willing and able to make this good.
