Here are some pictures that I recently took at high school softball games.

Were you lying on the ground? 5D + Canon Grip: 40D + Canon Grip: 28-135 3.5 -5.6 USM / IS: Canon 24-105 f4 : Sigma 17-70 2.8: Canon 50mm 1.8: Canon 70-200 2.8 USM / IS: 430ex flash and two kit lenses 18-55 and 75-300 carry it all in a Tamrac backpack and handhold the Manfrotto Tripod and head.

Do you get one every game? I just finished my second game and didn't get this caliber shot or even close...

Welcome to POTN. Chris Anderson

Mar 31, 2008 09:02 | #8 Yes it was from home plate on the first base side through the back stop. I'm 16 and just started taking sports action shots a few months ago. I was actually sitting on the ground when this occured. Also, I usually get a nice shot similar to this one every game. I'm 16 . . . Give Me a Break

Yes - EXCELLENT shots! #1 is great. #2 is a nice capture but a little soft. #3 is good. The basketball shot isn't so great (too soft and underexposed) but indoor basketball is difficult under most situations. www.SantaBarbaraPix.com

The first one in particular is a good example of a nice shot that is almost lost into the abyss of the background, because it's so loose. Pull in closer either through optics or through post shot cropping, and that way you'll better bring out the emotion in her face and the action of the pitch. Fast pitch softball is a very interesting style to watch / photograph and there are many opportunities within the pitch to snag a cool shot. You just have to make sure you've got a balance between being to tight and cutting off important parts of the pitcher, and being to loose and therefore not shoving your subject into the viewer's face, if you will. --Alex Editorial Portfolio

You're already on the right track. Post more images that you like and keep asking the folks here for more C&C. I've found them to be very helpful, and all the C&C I've gotten has really helped me. Also, look at all the sports posts here, read the C&C, get new ideas, and learn from it. www.SantaBarbaraPix.com
