Hard Day's Work

Title: Hard Day's Work
Camera: Canon S2IS

This is some work taking place in Ghana, West Africa. All of the labor is manual. Women were hired to walk to a creek about 1/4 mile away to fetch water to mix concrete for a building project. Do you see the other American in the picture? It is the one with the camera (like me)!

Challenge #117 - People at work is closed.

Thankfully, we have enough entries for a inner and two follow-ups

First, Edd S: Hard Day's Work.

Ed, you sure get around and you have posted an impressive diversity of subjects from Africa to sports to macro to family. Saks - in Ghana??? that was my favorite, won't forget it soon.

This photo was very interesting to me because at first I wondered if it were totally posed to much smiling. But then I noticed two women on the left going back for another load. The bowl must weight about 40 pounds. Looks like sand and lime on the ground, so they be mixing mortar at this time. And, my guess that bowl may have held more water that they needed for that barrel. Thanks for giving me a lot to think about!

Second, Micky Daeus:

Represents work with perhaps 3-4 separate job descriptions in the picture. Those planes, aside from the flight crew, require a lot of folks on the ground.

Third, abuseddog: Spring sweeping

Not a bad job these days, those John Deere have heating, AC, and FM.

Remarkable that out of three photos, three different continents! Way to go guys!

And not one from CONUS.

You're next Edd S. How many times have you seen that?

Thanks for the first place vote.

The people were smiling for two reasons. 1) The people iof Ghana are exceptionally friendly people. 2) They were thrilled to have their picture taken.

The work was very hard. I helped for only three days and was totally wore out! By the way, the water bowls weighed more like 60 pounds! I tried it once and could tell that my neck and back would not be able to handle it (besides I spilled most of the water)!

The new contest will be up shortly.
