Are there any uses for it other than straightening the lines on buildings?

Some people use it for stock/food photography. Can someone show me - or point me in the direction of some of these images?

Yes..

Oh you want to know what they are as well..:)

The other thing that tilt shift lenses are good for is controlling the plane of focus. Normal lenses (that havent been dropped) have the plane of focus at some point infront of the film plane so that it is parallel to the film plane. Tilt shift lenses allow you to change the angle of the plane of focus. So for example if you are standing at the end of an avenue of trees. If you focus on the middle tree then both end trees will be out of focus and the middle tree will be in focus. This is because the plane of focus runs perpendicular to the axis of the lens and currently its focussed on the middle tree. With tiltshifts you can change the plane so that instead of being perpendicular to the axis of the lens its at an angle, which means that you can align it to the avenue of trees and they are then all in focus.

Other things you can do with a TS

Canon make a 50 mm f2.5 1:2 macro lens, you can buy a lifesize convertor for it which changes it from 1:2 to 1:1 and gives you full lifesize macro photography.

You can also attach the lifesize convertor to the tiltshifts. This loses the ability to focus to infinity but allows them to become macro lenses with shift capability. So you can change the plane of focus at macro distances which is very useful.

As to links to examples, sorry cant help

All the best

I got mine with the intent of doing some more macro and proper architetural. You have a bit to learn with them. You just don't slap it on and good pictures come out. They make great walk around primes.

I find I just like mental blurring.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.
