Admittedly not my best set of sports photographs but the lighting was so bad + I havnt got my flash yet :( Anyway, what you think?

Good color balance, good post-production work , decent action. However, I would tighten your crops somewhat. As for flash- I'd leave it at home; it'll ruin your shots. Combat sports look better with available lighting imo.

We call that karate here. Kickboxers do not wear head and foot gear. Did you use your 30mm? I don't think flash would help, first of all you would annoy the fighters, secondly it wouldn't refresh fast enough to get good action. I put my camera on continuous and try to get as fast a shutter speed as I can at ISO 1600. Here is a sample, but I should have opened it up wider because they were underexposed and produced too much noise. It's a difficult sport to photograph since one does not always have a good vantage point.

Sadly mma has taken all the gas out of standard martial arts events.

Well, it is a kickboxing event, WKA - World KICKBOXING Association, the shots you have there are points sparring, which technically is karate, but there is also 'continous' sparring, which is kickboxing. MaNY Kickboxers do wear protective gear, it all depends the style and the event, personally I wouldnt wear any if I didnt, I only wear gloves when sparring anyway. but thats only small details, :P

As far as the vantage point, yeah I agree, I much prefer when I go to ring fights. I'll keep the continous shooting in mine next time. Thanks :D

And yeah I agree about MMA, but, I'm hoping to train Muay Thai soon to do k1 comps, then progress onto MMA myself.
