I have a rebel xt and I was just curious what would be the best settings to have these on. Im sure i will get alot of people saying "well it depends on the shot" but Im just wanting the best average setting to have it on. Thank you!

Ha ha. Ok, thats a little different than how it sounded at first.
In that case I guess a lot of it depends how much post processing you plan to do. What do you use? Even when I shoot JPG, which is most of the time, I plan to touch up in the computer, so I let the camera do a little bit of sharpening (2 or 3 what ever that means) and then I use a better program to do the rest. If you shoot RAW then it doesn't matter what you have them set at I don't think.

Shoot RAW and you can worry about those settings (along with white balance) later.

If there was a "best settings", Canon wouldn't have given you a choice. For the Basic Zone they set them to Parameter 1, so that's apparently what Canon decided would be reasonably good for most shots.

It really depends on what you like, and what you intend to do with the photo afterward.

If you happen to like "true colors" (as opposed to, say, "the Velvia look") and plan minimal or no post-processing, you might check out this posting in my weblog (external link). Bear in mind that your camera and mine might not respond the same.

You don't have to manually "fix" (e.g., Convert to JPEG) all pics shot in RAW. If you use Adobe Bridge, you can just seleect all RAW images and have Bridge make a JPEG copy of each RAW image. I learned this the hard way recently.

I have the sharpness up 3 or 4 and the color saturation up just a touch, it works for me but it's really personal preference. Sometimes I still PP afterwards depending on what kind of look i'm after.
