About a year ago, my grandson and I were enjoying some time hanging out and taking pictures along a mountain stream/river. I asked him to hand me my lens bag which had the 70-300 IS lens in it. Unfortunately the bag was not fastened, and when he picked up the bag the lens came out and rolled down into a pool.

I spent about 3 or 4 days rotating the lens in and out of a slightly warm oven, and in the end it worked just fine -- my daughter uses it to this day!

Wow! it worked fine!?! That is amazing, and yet another example of how persistence pays off.

Na, just kidding, you are still a loser.
^^ If you higlight this you will be cool ^^

It's called "Billingham" (although a Domke might work) ;)

My Domke J-1 is also set up so that the sort of accident described can't really happen, because the top strap is anchored independent of the top flap.

100% crop, EXIF should be intact. I think the lens is fine and I hate pixel peeping anyway. What do you think? I am also switching back to my old tamrac bag which is bigger but is of a similar design to what has been mentioned on here in previous posts. My backpack will only come out if going hiking etc...

Does your manual focus still work?

I did something similar (it wasn't my wife, it was me) to my EF-28mm f/1.8 and though all was well until I was trying to manual focus via Live view the other day and realized the ring was turning but the elements were not. I plan on cracking it open to check on the insides this weekend.

I have a rule for myself with my backpack. It's either open or it's zipped. I never (so far) close it without zipping it. If, for whatever reason, I don't want to zip it, then I don't close it. Works for me.

This is what I practice too. Although most of the time if an item is out, I don't zip it fully. Just half way for easy access but enough that the lid don't flip open when lifted.

Similar incident happened to me but with a laptop bag. I'm using the laptop and my colleague lifted the bag to move it on another table. We ended up picking coins, pens and other bits and pieces of junk I have on the floor of the hotel lobby. Since then, I do what runninmann do. Either fully open, or zipped (at least halfway).

I'm so glad my wife is a photographer as well and is more paranoid about damaging gear than I am.

I have no opinion on this domestic dispute but I think the OP definitely deserves a title fairy visit for starting a whole thread named:

i think the problem is that not everyone can consistently follow that discipline.

the contractor's rule is ALWAYS tie down your ladder WHEN you put it on your rack :D.

Oh, yeah. Discipline. I forgot ;).

Sorry, It all your fault. Bags like that are an accident waiting to happen. Just make a policy that you always keep the bag zipped.

I agree - but like I said, "it can be a pain in the ass."

If I have say, the 7MDH around my neck and I'm actively shooting I might go a while without snapping it closed, but there's Velcro to help in the meantime. But if it comes off my shoulder... CLICK!

I guess it should read, "if you put your bag down - ZIP IT." :D
