Hello all,

I've just bought a 24-105 f4 L. This lens is great but by using it, i noticed a sound like grrrrrr during 2 or 3 seconds after shooting. Is that normal ? The manual seems to mean it is IS working.

But i got a 17-85 IS that didn't doo any noise ! Already, at a test, it seems to me that i hear this sound on a 70-200 f4L IS. But it was realy louder.

I would order them from no to loud noisy :
-17-85 IS - silent
-24-105 IS - noisy
-70-200 f4 IS - loudy

Your advice ? Do i need to change my 24-105 ? Is yours doing so much noise ?

DIfferent Canon IS lenses make different amounts of noise. Which reminds me of the time I was in class talking about noise in high ISO pictures. A number of students asked me if their camera would really make more noise.

I can hear the IS on my 24-105mm working but it's quieter than the IS on my 70-200mm f/4 so I would say the noise you're hearing is not uncommon and probably normal.

This is normal. It's the IS motor doing its thing.

You want IS noise? Try the 300 F4 IS L - after that the other IS lenses I've tried all seem quiet! IS continues for a second or so after the shot - totally normal!

Yeah, totally normal. I think the 70-200 f/4 IS had the loudest IS I've heard! :)
