A few weeks ago, I could not stop buying / looking at gear. I was constantly browsing FS forums here, on FM, and a few local places.

I really thought I had a disease as I literally had things coming in to the post office every week.

But now... I think its gone?

Am I cured? Or will it come back to find me! :o

Anybody ever experience this? I still love taking photos, but the need to purchase more gear has stopped!

I have a sort of mental "gear list" that i work towards. Everytime i make a big step forward in my list, i am content for a good long while. I know exactly what you mean. Eventually, there will be an item that you start pining over... and you may get the "bug" back, Just enjoy the downtime.

It is very possible to get to the 5-year kit. This is my hypothetical kit that would keep me happy with no revisions for about 5 years. If i have all i need, why would i want more?

Grats, and keep shooting!

I know THIS (external link) would keep my collection of lenses to a minimum. :p LOL

I know what you mean though about having urges to buy stuff where you obsessively look for deals on here. Once I have what I need, I use it and don't look on that forum until I know I need something for a reason. For example, I just bought a Sigma 24-60 f/2.8 off amazon. I was looking all over this forum for Sigmas and Tamrons that are f/2.8 and cheap, because my Canon 17-85 is garbage indoors without the flash. I need to do some wedding photography this summer, so I need a lens that can work in a church with no flash.

I find my purchases revolve. Let me explain, I buy equipment then read books, which makes me buy more equipment. It's a cycle right now!

agree, once u get what u want, you find yourself frequenting less the gear section but more in the photo gallery/talk abt photography section. but there is a difference between using yr current gear and finding limitations, and browsing gear articles and going ooh-ahhhh. even if u do find limitations and could justify getting new gear, you'd still need to ask yourself if you will use it that often to justify the expense. thats why i sold off my macro lens & am still pondering (in fact, shelved for the moment) a low-light lens.

Kind of off topic but is there a pill to cure the addiction to POTN?

of course, put POTN under the "blocked sites" list in your ZoneAlarm or whatever ;)
