I know it is not the right time of year but I have the opportunity to shoot some adult semi pro football and am looking for any tips, pointers, or other advice that those who do this a lot have. These shots are from an inner squad scrimmage to get ready for the first game.

I think you have some winners here. The shutter speed and exposure seem good. The only drawback in number one is player number 25. Just standing there, he takes away from the action. Also, in shot number 3, what are all the green dots on the left side of the picture?

The green dots are the little pieces of rubber in the turf to prevent injuries. I believe this is the brand, Sprinturf (external link), but am not positive. I agree about the player just standing still in the first shot. Thanks for the feedback.

My impression was just the opposite. When I first saw it I thought he was standing there looking down at the guy he knocked down that is laying flat on his back. It made me laugh a bit actually.

Nice shots in some nice light for football.

You seem to be on the right path and should do just fine. Keep going over the basics in your mind as you watch the game.

Faces are key and both eyes visible is ideal.
Have the ball in the image for most situations.
Shoot as tight as your lenses and location will allow.
The faster the shutter speed the better.
Follow the game closely and whenever possible anticipate the next play and set up to capture it. The better you get at this the more top end shots you will produce.

I wish I could be shooting football right now. :-(

Best of luck.

And as for that signature, 'Big K' - I too have more money than skill... and I've only got a fiver.
